How Should Flint Handmade Spend $150?!?

Posted by Crystal

SPECIAL WEDNESDAY POST!  I posting early again, because I have some news that I am SOOOO excited to share with you all!  I'll get back on my regular Tuesday/Thursday posting schedule next week.  :)

So, waaaaayyy back in February, I posted a blog about the ArtServe Creative Many Census, a survey about the creative economy in Michigan.

I encouraged all of the artists and crafters I know to complete the survey and, of course, I completed it myself.  Everyone who completed the survey was entered into a random drawing to win a mini-grant of $500, $1000 or $1500 to support their creative endeavors.

Well, guess what, dear blog readers???

I RECEIVED THE $1500 MINI-GRANT!!!

OMG!  OMG!  OMG!

When I completed the survey, I pledged to the other Directors of Flint Handmade to donate 10% of the mini-grant to Flint Handmade should I be selected to receive one.  I am so excited to be able to give Flint Handmade $150!

In honor of the ArtServe Creative Many Census, Flint Handmade is going to sponsor our own version of a creative survey: We want to know how YOU think Flint Handmade should spend the $150!

Should we buy new weatherproof FH Knuckles logo banners?  Should we host a pizza party for all of the friends of Flint Handmade?  Should we award mini-grants to some of our vendors?  Or should we do something else entirely???

Post a comment with YOUR idea for the $150 by 5pm on Tuesday, October 12th.  Flint Handmade will select our favorite idea and post it on the blog on Thursday, October 14th.  If your idea is selected, YOU will receive 10% of the $150, because we want to encourage continued creative philanthropy in Flint!

We can't wait to start receiving your ideas!

  1. Congrats! I think it would be fun if you could do a youth outreach program with the $150. Reel in the next generation of crafters.

  2. Every time I've been to an event, the signage outside blows away. I like the idea of new banners. Or buying something nice for Tracey, because she's rad.

I don't want any part of the money, though. Just throwing my two cents out there.

    Congratulations!

  3. I was thinking banners (and other signage) before I read your suggestion of banners!! I use a sign guy for all my personal banners and the signage at work, so if you need a quote, just let me know. I'd be happy to help!

    CONGRATS!

  5. Congratulations, Crystal! I agree that vinyl banners are the way to go, as far as signage. You can use 'em indoors or out.

I would also consider putting some money back in to your marketing and advertising (but of course, I would be the one to say that, right?)

What about some stickers, buttons, magnets etc to give out at the upcoming Holiday Market?

  7. Congratulations Crystal! That's a really great prize to win!

I think the money should be used towards signage, or perhaps merch, like bumper stickers, buttons, pennant flags, or uhhh... patches?

  8. Great Job Crystal! Advertising is the way to go. Perhaps business cards to be placed where women frequent such as laundromats or grocery stores.
